The 2,112 piece puzzle has been sewing into a top.
I have pieced the top of my Brother's quilt. I wanted this project finished for his birthday. So I worked like a mad woman until the wee hours of Saturday morning to have it ready in time for their weekend visit.
My father and brother were coming down for a small birthday celebration. You see, their birthdays are 2 (two) days apart.
We had a wonderful dinner Saturday evening. I made fresh pasta and baked my brother's favourite cake and for my father, date squares.
It was great to see his expression when he opened the box! He's been nagging me to get it done. ;o) I can hardly blame him, it does have beautiful fabrics in it.
Will I ever make another one? I don't think so. There are so many pieces to this quilt. Towards the end of putting this puzzle together, I just wanted to get it over with. Not good! When there are many pieces I feel the need to take a break from it, otherwise I find it tedious! The pleasure is no longer there.
I also finished another flimsy. I call this one History Repeats Itself. The picture really does not do it justice.
The fabrics are all Smithsonian reproductions. I've had these fabrics for years in my stash and had bought them for a specific project in mind. With time, I no longer liked the pattern so the fabric stayed in my stash. Some did get used in other quilts.
I chose this pattern because it was the only one I felt would not detract from the beauty of the reproduction fabrics. I wanted a sort of fabric scrapbook. I still have lots of fabric left. With time, they will be used in another project. I've been eying the book Prairie Children and Their Quilts: 14 Little Projects That Honor the Pioneer Spirit. I'm positive the fabrics would work well with the quilts in these books. Hum... perhaps it's time to help the economy again! ;o)
Aside from a busy weekend, not much is happening. School is picking up so I'll be doing a balancing act again.
Thank you for stopping by! I truly enjoy reading your comments!

They are both nice quilts. But, the one for your brother is gorgeous!!! Well worth all of the time you put into it. How are you going to quilt it?
I just bought the Prairie Children book and I LOVE it!! You should get it, those fabrics would be fantastic.
WooHoo - the puzzle is done, done, done! Way to go!
Love the other one, too. And, you really must own the Prairie Children book - it's fun just to sit and read. :-)
Wow, now that is one stunning quilt. Congrats on getting it finished. Love the other quilt too, such pretty fabrics. Have to agree with Darlene, the Prairie book is a must have.
Is that just the top done for your brother? If u managed to quilt it I am totally in awe! It looks great!
OH MY! That's alot of pieces- I thought I was the only one VBG
I see I have company in small pieces madness. I'm not sure I'll have enough to make a queen - well maybe if I dye more fabric or use large borders. I had cut all the hsts last summer when I first got the wondercut ruler. I was up late last night sewing blocks and have almost another 8 done- Your brother's quilt is gorgous. I have the Prarie Quilt book- I love it and one of my friend's DD's called and wants a green quilt for her doll- what's a gal to do??? Enjoy your day.
Thank you for sharing
They are BEAUTIFUL
Your blog makes my fingers itch to get sewing.
And thanks for link to book - I just really NEED that book now I have seen it.
Love Leanne
Your brothers birthday quilt is gorgeous. It does feel good when it's finally done.
The reproduction quilt is wonderful and yes those fabrics will be great for the Prairie Children book, I love mine.
Both quilts are stunning -- and I hope your brother truly appreciates the work that went into his puzzle :0). I think the Prairie children book would be great -- another "mini" quilt book you might want to take a look at is by the same author "American Doll Quilts" -- it has ideas/patterns for quilts based on historical quilts from the revolutionary period through the 30's and 40's. Another good one I found recently is called "Bits and Pieces" by Karen Soltys. Some great ideas there for small quilts.
Your brother must be thrilled, it is gorgeous, how are you going to quilt it?
What a lucky brother to get such a gorgeous quilt! It looks wonderful!
OHHH - it does look like a lot of pieces! And it is so big!! Congratulations on getting it finished!!
Hi Carole,
Your quilts are both beautiful- What a lucky brother to get such a fabulous gift.
I really like the Yellow Brick road
pattern and I used it to form the background around a Mariner's compass block that was set on point and just off the centre of the quilt. The brick pattern was great to showcase all the various sea fabrics. I sent it to my brother in law who loves the ocean and he was thrilled with it.
It is always so much fun to give a quilt to someone who will enjoy and love it. It makes all the time one puts into it very rewarding.
Keep making your wonderful quilts, Carole,
Regards from a Western Canadian quilter,
Anna

WOW....the quilt for your brother is just stunning....
Both flimsies look wonderful! But the one for your brother is absolutely stunning!!! I can see why you don't want to make another, but this one is a masterpiece! Well done!!!
Pretty quilt...
My mom's birthday is 2 days after mine (& several years before - at the same time. Tee Hee.)
Wow Carole....beautiful job!!!!
Boy, your brother's quilt is awesome -- I'll bet he'll love it. That's a lot of triangles LOL. I'd love to see the Smithsonian quilt in person -- those fabrics are so pretty!
I just love Prairie Children and Their Quilts. I'm slowly working my way through, making each quilt. I say 'Go For It' *s*
Wowwee...there is a ton of piecing in that quilt! He really must be your "favorite" brother!
Are you going to quilt it on the long arm??
What a quilt top. With all those pieces I know I never would have even started such a big endeavor. What a trooper and great sister you are!
Your brother's quilt is beautiful! It sure looks like you've been very productive lately! Great job!
Hi Carole-
Love your quilts. WOW that first one is quite the project with all those pieces.Your my hero cause I would have given up on that a long time ago. LOL WAIT!! I would have NEVER started it. It's so pretty. Love the reproduction one too. Now that I would do. LOL
But who's counting? Your brother's quilt is awesome in every way. Well done, Carole! I love History Repeats... too, it's great! You're one busy lady these days!
Wow - 2 quilts in one post. There certainly are a lot of pieces in your brother's quilt. It looks great though, and I am sure your brother will love it forever.
I have seen that Prairie children book. There is a blogger that is making all the quilts, and I have been sorely tempted to do so myself.
great quilts.............
Catching up again - I always seem to be catching up! You may have gotten tired of this quilt but it looks absolutely marvelous! You should be so proud of youself.
I bought all those Smithsonian fabrics also - I think they started my love for reproductions. They would look GREAT in the doll quilts from that book - very authentic!
