All Cooped up!

Like most of you in the north country, we have been getting ready for the cold weather.  Stephen has been busy preparing our wood supply.  When I opened the door this morning, this is what greeted me!

I just think it's so cute!  It reminds me of the Grinch! I'm not sure I want to stick that log in the wood stove!  Do you think I can sell it on e-bay under the "strange phenomenon" section? lol

Speaking of getting ready for the winter, Stephen has been busy working on this little project!

Back in May, we added some Red Heads to the "girls" club!

Here's Mabel and Isabelle (corner left).  Such a curious bunch of girls!

Now that there are nine (9) members in the "girl's Club", they needed a bigger coop.  I've always wanted a stationary chicken coop (we presently have a mobile one that Stephen moves around the yard). They will spend the cold months in their new home and the summer, in their mobile home!  

I'll get Stephen to make flower boxes to put under the windows and of course I'll need a star for the top of the door! It's going to be so purty!

On the quilting front, I've been busy working on a wool project as well as a few other things.  I can get so distracted at time! lol

Boo... hooo....!

What a disappointing Halloween!

Only 8 kids showed up at my door step! What's going on here?  I had all these wonderful goody bags made up!  A wonderfully carved pumpkin by dd ... and barely anyone came. I sure hope the numbers will increase next year!

As I sat downstairs, waiting for the ghouls to show up, I took the opportunity to clean out my blog labels.  I felt there were way too many labels that were redundant!

I've been plugging away at the Folk Art Bloom quilt!  Voila, another one done!

Boo...!

Happy Halloween!  

October 31 is one of my favourite days!  I love to decorate for the occasion!  As a matter fact, Fibre Junction is known for it's Halloween touch all year long!

I should note that I am very particular about my Halloween decorating and am not into the blood and gore aspect of the celebration.  I am always on the look out for a unique piece and this year I stumbled upon a lovely witch!

Meet Agatha, the Fibre witch!

She has such a sympathetic look .... her outfit is lovely!

Oh, and I love the colour of her hair.  In my book, if I must succumb to the effects of aging, that is the hair colour I am aiming for! lol

For the record, I do not foresee taking on that look for quite some time.  I am still young!  A kid! ;o)

As of late, I have been busy with establishing the web store for Fibre Junction.  It's a full time job!!!!  lol  Oh... but I am so enjoying myself in this quilting adventure!

In keeping with the spirit of the day's celebration, I have completed this little gem!

"Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!" We usually stopped at "trick or treat" because, it was just too long! ;o)

Children Can't Fly...?!

Gotta love window companies and their sense of humour!  Here at the Prevost-Meier household, we are presently doing a bit of renovating.  There were a couple of windows that we wanted to replace.  So Stephen has been busy taking care of these. New windows makes such a difference, especially in a house that is more then 180 years old!

Stephen is always looking for ways to "recycle" wood, continuously on the look out for a recent tree that fell etc.  Last year was the year for fallen trees in our neighbourhood!  Stephen's right there, with the owner's permission of course, collecting pieces.  You can actually say he has a reputation as the neighbourhood "wood collector"!  Now they just call him, offering first dibs on what's available! lol

Since last year, he has been busy making these wonderful Windsor chairs for our dinning room.

We have two of these armed Windsor chairs.

We have four of these beauties! They are all really comfortable, which is wonderful as we can just sit around the dinning room table for hours chatting away and our derrieres are not complaining! ;o)  He did have them tested before he continued with the carving! ;o)

Now for the story!  Anything above the seat is Red Oak, which came from across the street. A huge branch fell during a windy storm and provided the wood for us.  As for the seat, it is Box Elder and that comes from a tree that fell at his work place.  Anything below the seat is Sugar Maple, a hard wood, which was purchased.

I love that my home is filled with furniture that has a story.  Stories are important, as they are the foundation of who we are, passed down from generations to generations.  They are our anchor!  I don't know about you, but I find that in today's "disposable" world, stories seem to have lost their importance.  I like that many of our furniture can be passed down to future generations.  They are the "antiques" of the future! ;o)

In between hand appliqueing Folk Art Bloom, I've managed to get a bit of wool work done.

Here is a penny rug I recently completed, as a gift for a dear friend! The pattern is called Penny Paws by Lake View Primitives!

I'll be calling it Motley Crew!  It's so cute!  I don't know that I want to part with it! lol

Well, it's presently hanging at the Shoppe, as a sample.  I'll be able to enjoy for a while before I send it off!  Of course, there's always the option of making another one!  Naw.......!
