I decided that I needed to uncluttered my quilting life. I have so much quilting stuff, some left over from the Fibre Junction days ... fabric and more fabric. I'm not sure what to do with it all except make more quilts. Not that it's a bad idea, but I already have so many projects going at the moment. For instance ...
As I started to tackle the quilting studio, I came across a bag of 19th century reproduction (less than two (2) inches) fabric scraps.
Squirrel! Great! I can get rid of the scrap bag by cutting the fabrics into 1.5" inch squares for this EPP UFO project I'm working on. Perfect way to purge! Off I went to start cutting ....
First I organized the scraps into colours, then started cutting ...
Realizing that the bag of scraps was not enough ... I reached for my bins of reproduction scraps.
As I was cutting the fabric, it dawned on me ... Why don't I also cut for that scrappy 3/8 inch hexe quilt that I have in mind to piece?
Shush! Don't tell anyone but I started a bag of 3/4" fabric scraps! Just in case I change my mind! LOL
Three days later ... I'm still at it ...
Oh but I have a pile of fabric trash to show my progress ...
Chookyblue does her next Zoom quilting meet! lol
My hand piecing progress ... Queen size??? I may have to rethink that!
At what point/size do you consider fabric trash?
Ever since I started to English Paper Piece, I have a difficult time throwing fabric away. You just never know! The smallest EPP hexagon is 1/4 inch! Turn that into a queen size quilt! ROFLOL
Thanks for stopping by! Catch you later! Cheers!
Yes, I have the same problem, too many things to do, things unfinished and things I want to do, so I need to downsize and decide what is important to keep. I do like the idea of donating to charity quilting. It seems whenever I think I can get back to things, something else comes up and takes my time, so I am just going to concentrate on making things that make me happy.
Oh, Carole, I just laughed along with you. Whether it is a squirrel we chase or a rabbit hole we fall into, we have all been there, haven't we?
Since I make a lot of mini quilts I have a hard time throwing away anything larger than 3/4". And since working on the Pam Buda pattern "Every Little Bit", I am finding use for 1/2" scraps. It really does get overwhelming to hang on to all those little bits. Sometimes I bag up a bunch and offer them to anyone interested--just to make room for more scraps. And there are always takers. :)
If you did make a queen size quilt from those blocks it would be incredible!
I feel your pain. 😂🤣
My smallest saved piece is 1.5" be it square or partial strip.
I do not applique or EPP.
I’ve been on the same journey. I see value in tiny pieces and find it so hard to part with some of them. Sigh! Good luck.
I too do similarly as I find exquisite beauty in details and smaller things of life though I think after my most recent calculations I probably have enough fabric in to make over at least 1000 quilts| Hopefully, I'm exaggerating that number but I do swear I have plenty. LOL
So what am I working on dear friend, 1/2" finished strips of threads on a spool block (Edyta Sitar pattern). I know its certifiable but I am enjoying and having fun so that's what truly counts. HUGS
