Fall Market 2016 .... last post!

By Sunday I was beat! I usually stay until the end (Monday) but experience has taught me that Monday is useless.

Two days of walking the market floor is enough for me. Let's face it, that's all I'm concentrating on! Ok, that and Mexican food ... margaritas! lol

That evening I made a discovery ... The Hilton Sky lounge on the 23rd floor ....

It was truly relaxing! I enjoyed my quiet time .... Starbucks and journalling. Here is another view.

I really relished Fall market this year. I think it was because I attended without pressure to purchase anything. My goal was to see the trends for 2016 and take in as much inspiration as possible.

What's trending? A super hero theme certainly was prevalent! Check out this sweet quilt kit!

Quilters are Superheros by Moda. Kits are available here. So true, I love that quilt!

Moda is so kind to their customers. When you sit with your rep and purchase fabrics at Market, they give you a gift. This year was a set of hand towels that can be turned into:

How cute is that? I just don't know if I want to cut up my cute towels to make the dolls!

What I did buy was purely because I felt it would be a good addition to Fibre Junction. Perhaps this new attitude is due to experience. I don't know, I just know that it felt great to walk the aisles, observe, and take it all in.

I did purchase some batiks. I love Island Batiks .... their colours are saturated ... Gorgeous!

As for holiday fabric, I purchased the following kit Snow Goose by Minick & Simpson. Fabrics and kit arriving in April 2017.

I did make the decision to bring in more happy fabrics, so Rainy Day by Me & My Sister is coming to Fibre!

That's it for Fall Market 2016. Thank you for stopping by my little corner in cyber space! Cheers!

Fall market 2016 .... Part deux!

I apologize for being a bit behind on this post. Life just seams (ha! ha!) to get in the way!

I enjoy walking the market floor. There is so much to look it. I will admit, it can get a bit overwhelming, there is so much to see! I enjoy looking at the ways the various booths are decorated, so original.

I had to stop at the Riley Blake booth and see what they had. In December 2016, Fibre Junction will be receiving Lori Holt's (Bee in my Bonnet) new fabric line ... Sew Cherry 2. I just love that quilt made with the fabric line!

Such a happy quilt! They also had a cute wall of small quilts!

I need a wall like that in my sewing studio! As a matter of fact, I need more happy in my life!

I loved how this booth was decorated. I'm such a push over for Christmas anything! lol

I fell in love with Merrily by Gingiber for Moda Fabrics.

Her panel is so crisp ... yes .... I just had to order Bambi and the necessary fabrics to create this gorgeous wall hanging.

Isn't it cute? I just love it! She does have a quilt made with another smaller panel that is just as sweet!

Available for pre-order here.

That's it for now .... thank you for stopping by my little corner in cyber space!

Catch you later! Cheers!

Fall market 2016 - Part 1

Hey everyone, I'm back and had a marvelous time. I left extremely early on Thursday morning, so early that I was able to photograph - Sun Rise over New York City!

First thing I did once I set foot in Houston was officiate the beginning of market by enjoy my first margarita ... Cheers!

The Moda theme for market was "quilters are super heroes in disguise" and what an appropriate theme it was, for me anyway. It was at this market that I finally had the opportunity to meet my Quilting Hero, Lynette Jensen of Thimbleberries.

I have always wanted to meet her. She was/is so such a part of my quilting experience. Last night I counted the number of Thimbleberries books I own and the total is ... 14 books. Although I have cleaned out my quilting library numerous times, I could not part with her books. For me, her books are a connection to my quilting past ... besides ... I still like her style!

Lynette is back designing her traditional Thimbleberries fabrics with RJR. She also has a new book coming out in January 2017 - Thimbleberries with an Attitude. I love the title! In her new book she takes her traditional quilt patterns and gives it a modern spin by using fabrics designed by Cotton + Steel.

Another schoolhouse I enjoyed tremendously was hosted by Martingale and Moda All-Stars Mini Marvels. The theme was Super Heroes! What fun it was to see the Moda designers dressed as Super Hero Quilters.

I actually won the book as a prize! I just couldn't believe it! I so rarely win! You can just imagine how excited I was.

That's it for now! Stay tune for part 2!

Thanks for stopping by! Catch you later! Cheers!

Fall Market 2015 ... some Saturday Evening Highlights!

This post certainly "should" have been written back in October .... but you know how it is?

I have to keep reminding myself that this blog is about enjoying the adventure, so no posting stress allowed! lol

I had the privilege of attending Moda's 40th anniversary dinner and sat with two lovely ladies. Okay, they are one of my favourite, favourite fabric and pattern designers. Meet Alma Allan and Barb Adams of Blackbird Designs.

I'm sure you can tell how unhappy I was to have my photo taken with these beautiful ladies! lol What great dinner conversations we had!

The anniversary party was a blast, I even had a chance to meet another of my favourite pattern and fabric designer. Can you guess who it is?

Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings!

That evening, I sent this picture to Diane, a friend of mine, (Primitive Gatherings also happens to be one of her favourite designers) and mentioned "Guess who I'm with?" Diane's reply was "your sister?" I laughed hysterically!

Moda puts on a great party! Great food, great company and lots of dancing ... what more could one ask for?!

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of cyberspace! Enjoy your day!

Catch you later!

Off to Market I go .... day 2!

Today was schoolhouse .... what a day!  My morning ritual is to pick the sessions I think will be of interest. So much to choose from!

It's a day filled with information .... I come out of there brain dead! lol

Afterwards is sample spree.  I must say, it wasn't as packed as usual.  A good thing! Sadly, I didn't buy much. Not sure why, but I wasn't in the mood.  Perhaps I need to get my head checked! lol

Did get this stinking cute bag from Riley Blake!

If you spent so much, you got the bag ... well I made sure I spent so much! You understand right? They also had these cute smaller bags you could purchase!

So now I'm styling! Of course I had to get me some Zombie Love - 1 yard cut!

Once I got over the zombie thing, I picked up a Cotton Steele FQ bundle from RJR. I just love those colours! Not sure what I'm going to do with it besides fondle it ......

I must admit, it's the first time I spend so little at Sample Spree! I really wanted to buy but couldn't find anything .... Maybe I should call my doctor?

Off to process my day!  Thanks for stopping by!  Cheers!

Off to Market I go ....!

Arrived in Houston early Thursday morning. Goodness it's hot and humid! Didn't do much except walk around a bit and stopped at my favourite Mexican restaurant - Guadalaja Del Centro - and had one of these.

It's official ... I am now in International Quilt Market Mode! Cheers!

Playing hooky!

On Monday, I chose to head on over to the Johnson Space center.  I'm a space buff, and enjoy reading about the early space program.  This was a perfect opportunity for a visit.

I took the Houston Public transit, what a ride! lol

The buses were very nice.  It's a great way to sight see from a different perspective!

As you get off the bus you are greeted by the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft.  It's huge.

In the early 1980's, I actually saw this aircraft fly over my parents home in Montreal.  It was on it's way to have the Canada Arm installed.  I remember going out on the back balcony and watching the aircraft fly over.  It was so exciting!

This pass was so kool!  It allowed me supervised access to various locations not accessible to the regular tours.  It was worth every penny!

The LM

We visited the ....

Such a huge pool!

They had astronauts training.... look for the bubbles!

You could watch them on a live cam...

We visited Mission control ... gone is the moving space capsule on a wire! lol

On your left is the actual rocket waiting to be launched in Virginia.  Yea, sadly it's the one that blew up!

The Apollo mission control.  Check out the metal desk ..... brings back memories .... I'm dating myself! lol

Now this American flag has been to the moon and back twice .... so kool!

Every part of the tour was amazing, but if I had to pick my favourite, it would be the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility

OMG ... I was like a kid in a candy store .....  I liked that they had a memorial wall of the space disasters.

Somehow, I was under the impression that the Mars Mission was a private endeavor, but no NASA is very much involved with it.

The Mars capsule ...

The transportation

Suiting up all from the inside ...

You walk around this facility and engineers are hard at work .... Makes me want to go back to school and get in the space program .... apparently they're hiring! lol

I learned so much .... so many pictures to show, but I'll spare you! ;)  One last one ..... A selfie!

I'm still excited from my day at the Johnson Space Center.  I'm definitely going back!

Thanks for visiting with me!  Cheers!

Fall Market 2014 - it continues!

When I talk about Fall Market in Houston, many shop owners tell me how they cannot stand Houston.  I'm really not sure why, I think it's a wonderful city.  I have no issues with Houston, perhaps it's because I was born and raised in a city.  Nonetheless, it does have some beautiful buildings, like the JP Morgan Chase building (I think that's what it is).  It caught my eye as I was walking back from the Fabshop dinner on Thursday.

Sadly, I think this building is gone!  I certainly didn't see it.  I was told that Houston does not cherish their old buildings.  It's unfortunate!  The architecture was beautiful.

This is the view I enjoyed every morning as I savored my latte.

I do a lot of walking when I travel.  I'm not one to take a cab, unless it is miles and miles away or unsafe to walk.  Of course it helps burns some of the calories from these ...

and more of these ....

On Saturday, there was a wonderful Moda Customer Appreciation party that I was fortunate to attend.  Thank you Moda!

With some Texas style Entertainment ...

With all the eating and drinking, you can see how walking is a good thing! lol

Thanks for stopping by!
