I've been pre-occupied with lots, mainly personal life stuff. </p><p>For me, thus far, it has been a year of evaluating what is beneficial for me? What can I cut out that has become a chore? I'm looking to have more joy in my life. Although I've implemented many new decisions, my life seems busier. How can that be???</p><p>I am still knitting away every chance I get. Seems quilting has been placed on the side line. I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's because I feel ... gasp ... I have enough quilts?!!!! How can that be?</p><p>As a form of relaxation, knitting seems easier for me at the moment. I like connecting with the yarn. I do not use commercial yarns and do like to support small crofts. A new stage of creativity for me, perhaps all in acquiring new wardrobe pieces.</p><p>I started a new project. A shawl!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkBSZ3PM2BE7WLrd3My3xm5LEPSvHU8mA87xT2E9DdbYeHYykj1JvAJGT4jVityS1XJljQZHBsWCqzWlde4WHxdGpUb4jlWYePDBVO6kR3s-jpmM6FF6HFE51ANYZNC9r_uD_NGH-pFFN2Omu8PbTxzYB4WZmZV6RIC9CfLP_xhv3SQPOLrVR16n20giA/s1280/Aito%20beginings.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1278" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkBSZ3PM2BE7WLrd3My3xm5LEPSvHU8mA87xT2E9DdbYeHYykj1JvAJGT4jVityS1XJljQZHBsWCqzWlde4WHxdGpUb4jlWYePDBVO6kR3s-jpmM6FF6HFE51ANYZNC9r_uD_NGH-pFFN2Omu8PbTxzYB4WZmZV6RIC9CfLP_xhv3SQPOLrVR16n20giA/s320/Aito%20beginings.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>The pattern is called ... <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/aito-2" target="_blank"><i>Aito</i> by Melody Hoffmann</a></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTQsXMvmUmuQwNwJtymUu_T7Qtr9968sgYNNcj35Ynz8XaYg5iUs_lyaoi3QBlG-jvmX93poUlfYvRkd9F370sFCy3GU32x5BZwoMZXcv9A6OQnlPvDlIXfZ3BtpFpfw04vB5zGJXGxiaiGG_tOB5MrubY04kF1fRisOH5KULaCWpmDKvCMBT8FgpCF48/s1234/A12.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1234" data-original-width="953" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTQsXMvmUmuQwNwJtymUu_T7Qtr9968sgYNNcj35Ynz8XaYg5iUs_lyaoi3QBlG-jvmX93poUlfYvRkd9F370sFCy3GU32x5BZwoMZXcv9A6OQnlPvDlIXfZ3BtpFpfw04vB5zGJXGxiaiGG_tOB5MrubY04kF1fRisOH5KULaCWpmDKvCMBT8FgpCF48/s320/A12.png" width="247" /></a></div><p style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Photo taken from the first page of the pattern</span></p><p>This is my finished version of the pattern. I'm good with how they turned out. </div><div><br /></div><div>As for the thumb instruction, I did not follow the pattern but did it differently. The holidays are over. It's back to a regular work week. I do hope you've had a wonderful holiday season.</p><p>We FINALLY had a snow storm in way up Northeast New York. I know that some are not a fan of snow, but I am. It's gorgeous out there!</p><p>This year, I decided that it was time I knitted myself a pair of mittens. Little did I know that this simple project was going to turn into quite the production with lots of frogging. </p><p>The first attempt was from the book <i>Maja's Swedish Mittens</i> by Maja Karlson, the pattern is called Spruce Sprig. I used a wool I had purchased in Nova Scotia many many many moons ago. I didn't like the yarn I used for the trees. Frogged .... Rip it .... </p><p>Then, I decided to used Jamison & Smith Jumper weigh yarn and found the mittens to be too flimsy. This was mainly due to the size of the needles I was using.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvwWSaxv9L8kNx-yfzdKluzcBra0OslkaPjJb9K5ijAAEtmkSxNwzNTsYdil4x7Q5azBznFh4hIznJTu_m__wmgvIu1iHuZWpquAEevhgsL_NEJamOOJcHkdOSz6TkZv2ircq6x_2Chz65lpeBJ-E9yDI14zfakcBTW55j1v-3B1FVfHcYrcMqKy8h66k/s1280/Mitten%20tak%201.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvwWSaxv9L8kNx-yfzdKluzcBra0OslkaPjJb9K5ijAAEtmkSxNwzNTsYdil4x7Q5azBznFh4hIznJTu_m__wmgvIu1iHuZWpquAEevhgsL_NEJamOOJcHkdOSz6TkZv2ircq6x_2Chz65lpeBJ-E9yDI14zfakcBTW55j1v-3B1FVfHcYrcMqKy8h66k/s320/Mitten%20tak%201.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>I put that pattern aside and decided to go for a tried and true mitten pattern, <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bromont-mitts" target="_blank">Bromont Mitts</a> designed by Dianna Walla for Espace Tricot. This time, I used Rauma Garn Finull PT2 colours, navy blue, gold and gray.<div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT9qUKn6B_Jp50jB2MrAlq0_cBe4Bpr1pFRdz3LWzyD0Sq0ZrC_R65IyBw5nlMVLvcHNMkXGPgjRf-_G98t27tQ2oFQ3WtgaOOkhI8KsuoGz4Q7CiIyJc5czw5oTMvFciBIEXOQEAUFtk-7Fk195jU9vf5a4p3uucGPmGj2Jd5RcV-XNlWNhupqwT31eo/s1280/Mittens%20take%202.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT9qUKn6B_Jp50jB2MrAlq0_cBe4Bpr1pFRdz3LWzyD0Sq0ZrC_R65IyBw5nlMVLvcHNMkXGPgjRf-_G98t27tQ2oFQ3WtgaOOkhI8KsuoGz4Q7CiIyJc5czw5oTMvFciBIEXOQEAUFtk-7Fk195jU9vf5a4p3uucGPmGj2Jd5RcV-XNlWNhupqwT31eo/s320/Mittens%20take%202.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><div>Although I liked the feel and thickness of the mitten, I did not like the gold accent and the blue didn't do it for me. Frogged .... rip it!</div><div><br /></div><div>Switched things around a bit and went for the gray as the main colour with the navy blue as the accent colour. I had one mitten done, minus the thumb, brought it for show and tell at a luncheon with friends and realized that I had made a mistake on the chevron. Frogged .... rip it!</div><div><br /></div><div>Finally .... we have a pair of mittens!</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiblII7AI9bND0TB2J8QMAwb2Z9Ve_tLzvmQFYao2Eb45ZVHp4AIJyTdBSDbur8NJ502RYPWo0FRO2myXQ-72PQabnyVzaoMsQtzys7FQX2gG0izwPa_setgdrVLcnGPNLnk65aagqTsaZHzboMRyHDKqkqHLh0xWAeMLhvopUoVUl_F02xrJddzbf6zXY/s1280/Mittens%20final.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiblII7AI9bND0TB2J8QMAwb2Z9Ve_tLzvmQFYao2Eb45ZVHp4AIJyTdBSDbur8NJ502RYPWo0FRO2myXQ-72PQabnyVzaoMsQtzys7FQX2gG0izwPa_setgdrVLcnGPNLnk65aagqTsaZHzboMRyHDKqkqHLh0xWAeMLhvopUoVUl_F02xrJddzbf6zXY/s320/Mittens%20final.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div>I haven't blocked them yet. I love everything it represents, Santa Claus, kindness, hope, miracles, beauty, generosity etc... It's a magical season. It's also a time when most of us think of those in need and share our wealth. I love that too about Christmas!</p><p>I have quite a few favourite Christmas movies that I like to watch. One of my new favourite Grinch movie is the one with Benedict Cumberbatch as the Grinch. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHgmZIz1wWRZlki4RBv9AlZfvPByNq-t5QdK3XhQkRfVzQCNT9O8t1a9IjYQe1myuPSYJ3MvNL58H8pZFgqs-eX1QIF59BL-d8bj2Mn8bv1VQYGaDo3eOwkIO_Z4_YIDyjpnLyGIw0NvfjWheCGzn2aKxKQmzz_JtHL_ULeIPnqzYQ9SJSKj9WsCjofTE/s1024/Grinch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="851" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHgmZIz1wWRZlki4RBv9AlZfvPByNq-t5QdK3XhQkRfVzQCNT9O8t1a9IjYQe1myuPSYJ3MvNL58H8pZFgqs-eX1QIF59BL-d8bj2Mn8bv1VQYGaDo3eOwkIO_Z4_YIDyjpnLyGIw0NvfjWheCGzn2aKxKQmzz_JtHL_ULeIPnqzYQ9SJSKj9WsCjofTE/s320/Grinch.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>Don't get me wrong, I do love the original version and it will always have a special place in my heart. But this version tells the story in a humorous way. There are so many lines I like in that movie. Give it a watch, you might enjoy it too. <div><br /></div><div>On a Whoville note, I do have my tree up with my favourite ornaments. I like this tree somewhat bare. More specifically, what do I want to do with my life .... what is my next path.</p><p>Photography came to mind. I attended Dawson Institute of Photography many moons ago. This was back in the days where digital photography was just coming on the scene and much too expensive. I loved the whole process of photography, from shooting to developing my photos. I spent many hours in the darkroom. </p><p>My camera and meters were all precisely gauged to the zone system. I'm a black & white kind of gal. I love the beauty of this medium. </p><p>Many moons ago, I attended the Calgary Stampede and took this photograph of this beautiful soul. I do not know her name, nor have I ever met her. And yet, I feel that I have an inner knowing of her ... her strength .... there's an innocence about her.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP0dXX64thyphenhypheneeDjddZI_VU1063WXqgQ0Vx0LaHpGl4wmeJclyFC5wvDDEHvkLiBeUGZ6NI9Xcjfd26GM9H23EHkl0kmrdqqiHGT0ZiclT6Hr-j160mn0Qhm8iYFph1iUG4G_GayC7AmejlaPNzVvgRFCrS_q7L53jqt_6-HERug3u9xUx0_Kj0wPdCt8w/s1143/First%20Nation,%20Calgary%20AB.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1143" data-original-width="816" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP0dXX64thyphenhypheneeDjddZI_VU1063WXqgQ0Vx0LaHpGl4wmeJclyFC5wvDDEHvkLiBeUGZ6NI9Xcjfd26GM9H23EHkl0kmrdqqiHGT0ZiclT6Hr-j160mn0Qhm8iYFph1iUG4G_GayC7AmejlaPNzVvgRFCrS_q7L53jqt_6-HERug3u9xUx0_Kj0wPdCt8w/s320/First%20Nation,%20Calgary%20AB.jpeg" width="228" /></a></div><p>I found this print a while back and took a picture of it. Not sure why I keep going back to it. There's something about that picture that speaks to me .... speaks to my soul. </p><p>It's been a rough few months, with many challenges. Perhaps I'm looking for a time in my past when it was peaceful ... a time where all that mattered was photography and capturing the beauty around me.</p><p>Perhaps it's time to brush the dust off my camera and start taking photographs again, in black and white. Sort of wished I hadn't gotten rid of my darkroom equipment. Digital, although convenient, just doesn't seem to cut it for me. There's something about watching a print develop that is satisfying ... soulful.</p><p>Thanks for stoping by. </p>Carolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05969304332997075970noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6564554438273632665.post-23637082871818939382023-12-08T00:00:00.003-05:002023-12-10T10:27:46.165-05:00Peace<p>We could certainly use more peace and love in this world. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXG4FlYjDopcyb21Hv5IRXmHLdpNNe68Qxz3BliXiMC8BPaLSNuqilSbirBxfwjdS0nEqvcu81a6LsDT6h2jF-gqnpemkLCVpvc7KOk2s5owOw7L2E22nAMl27pyjFge_8y1W09lqCO4uPvgnwWMbSNkWgctMwQ8DrZlX9kH9eUzEfPAlooOk4C0DFryo/s800/Chanukah.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="800" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXG4FlYjDopcyb21Hv5IRXmHLdpNNe68Qxz3BliXiMC8BPaLSNuqilSbirBxfwjdS0nEqvcu81a6LsDT6h2jF-gqnpemkLCVpvc7KOk2s5owOw7L2E22nAMl27pyjFge_8y1W09lqCO4uPvgnwWMbSNkWgctMwQ8DrZlX9kH9eUzEfPAlooOk4C0DFryo/s320/Chanukah.png" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>"If you have a choice between being right and being kind, choose kind" Wayne W. We even have a blanket of snow! </p><p>I've been knitting away on the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/storm-sweater-3" target="_blank">Storm Sweater</a> by Petite Knit. It's an easy knit ... the pattern mainly consists of strategically placed knit and purl stitches. </p><p>This is what it looks like once you have joined the front.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOj0qE6TEeV-YTPQFG6V0A7VuOtOG2xKXUKQnWXHD5BQShdNevWPzcTR5qd6H-22i7TTPjJvaaPTyEn7oITxn59pTmXtc_u3Lsgyckx-0yNvSxMSmGlLbiwBlD3hsXB1jGv5Nd51OFj6WwAgV7SZTQKHgwV2umUOHlaVkTK2AG5bHxncYvKS8EMZnf3cs/s1280/Storm%20sweater%203.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1199" data-original-width="1280" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOj0qE6TEeV-YTPQFG6V0A7VuOtOG2xKXUKQnWXHD5BQShdNevWPzcTR5qd6H-22i7TTPjJvaaPTyEn7oITxn59pTmXtc_u3Lsgyckx-0yNvSxMSmGlLbiwBlD3hsXB1jGv5Nd51OFj6WwAgV7SZTQKHgwV2umUOHlaVkTK2AG5bHxncYvKS8EMZnf3cs/s320/Storm%20sweater%203.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I did manage to finish the sweater ... well except for the collar. Somehow there are always more important things that needs to get done, often at the detriment of our wellbeing.</p><p>I'm an expert at that. With all that has been going on in my life presently, I was on the road to a major burnout. Seemed I hadn't learned that lesson well last spring. However, this year I made it a point to respect myself and my need to self care.</p><p>Despite the huge amount of work requiring to get done, I took the time on Saturday to have dinner with a dear friend. We went to my favourite restaurant and, of course, I had my favourite dessert ... Bourbon Pecan pie with homemade ice cream. It's a shortbread crust .... Yum!</p><p>It's never too late to celebrate your special day with a friend!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFcBOvrkaPbkl57lacKE83hy8OFDv5N6BAw_VOmiFoFzOUH9frsJK08IrnomadrhPxFc8MRE8ndD1acxa2tdzqKvYSibm2DgsuzKjb3hozJsS02F0fhfIGh_u6UjYo4kkz4rdYvy0NiDO1zt6Jp7M1EMpmSmmc3NMtGHOBamSvMRu_dZOXtnfT7FsHi6Y/s1024/Pecan%20pie.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="819" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFcBOvrkaPbkl57lacKE83hy8OFDv5N6BAw_VOmiFoFzOUH9frsJK08IrnomadrhPxFc8MRE8ndD1acxa2tdzqKvYSibm2DgsuzKjb3hozJsS02F0fhfIGh_u6UjYo4kkz4rdYvy0NiDO1zt6Jp7M1EMpmSmmc3NMtGHOBamSvMRu_dZOXtnfT7FsHi6Y/s320/Pecan%20pie.JPG" width="256" /></a></div><p>That evening, I also attended a yearly event in my town. Each year, the <a href="https://www.cpkcr.com/en" target="_blank">CPKC Holiday Train</a> makes a stop in our town and provides us with lovely entertainment. </p><p>I bundled up and walked to the train station. In a few weeks I'll be back to this insanely busy schedule. I must admit, I've been enjoying this down time, getting lots of knitting and reading done.</p><p> I FINALLY sewed the buttons on Pumpkin's cardigan. OMG, was she not coming up I think the buttons would still be waiting patiently to be sewn!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFYLKlY4LhnkbNEAmUnNADz9VNgqCsnUldgI109pIZ9vRwxniIWsexLfqIBZpAXR1APzX4_q6Qo04wO8qCd1T21r6HfTb1mCkX398Qvl2T_Sue0oP04vKTgYA49RUiX6oGHH5dEpKxL5NPzVkhMapXJbL3WllpV-yk2jG90kK8KYjLRnGCv2o8jUKfCi8/s1280/buttons.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFYLKlY4LhnkbNEAmUnNADz9VNgqCsnUldgI109pIZ9vRwxniIWsexLfqIBZpAXR1APzX4_q6Qo04wO8qCd1T21r6HfTb1mCkX398Qvl2T_Sue0oP04vKTgYA49RUiX6oGHH5dEpKxL5NPzVkhMapXJbL3WllpV-yk2jG90kK8KYjLRnGCv2o8jUKfCi8/s320/buttons.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>She loved the cardigan ... It's such a great feeling when a hand made gift is appreciated! :)<div><br /></div><div>Then, all of a sudden, I was in a "let's get this done" mode. I had a of pairs of socks on the needles and it was high time to finish them. I started that project last year, late September, and had very little left to knit. The pattern is called <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gretel-christmas-motif-knitted-socks" target="_blank">Gretel by Winwick Mum</a>. It's a free pattern! <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gretel-christmas-motif-knitted-socks" target="_blank">Click here</a>. I used the recommended yarn, West Yorkshire Spinner's Signature yarn. It was a kit from <a href="https://www.woolandcompany.com" target="_blank">Wool & Company,</a> which is still available <a href="https://www.woolandcompany.com/wys-gretel-christmas-motif-knitted-sock-kit.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqgGpu2IgqjX1R1yBiPUhOGSczwO7hk3irXtefnwewOhGNvTP9ogNP8vSgzNfGHBU0bQbztfP2DPHw3zeFG1PY0UadLmVmw_EZlBhoRqet4VnunegfqBNN8opIElWoxd6J5xxyYzkrcv1lw9yX7RP27oujBvncWroWr8TKw3wleWbKyDcruQf9dcN7JQM/s4032/festive%20socks.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqgGpu2IgqjX1R1yBiPUhOGSczwO7hk3irXtefnwewOhGNvTP9ogNP8vSgzNfGHBU0bQbztfP2DPHw3zeFG1PY0UadLmVmw_EZlBhoRqet4VnunegfqBNN8opIElWoxd6J5xxyYzkrcv1lw9yX7RP27oujBvncWroWr8TKw3wleWbKyDcruQf9dcN7JQM/s320/festive%20socks.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>I am ready for the holiday! Not really in the mood to do anything besides spend time with myself knitting away. Self-care is so important and I will admit I have been neglecting myself for the last five months. No time! I'm playing catch up!</p><p>Have you heard about the fires in Quebec, Canada? OMG, we are feeling it where I live. I thought my area in the US was bad ... Montreal has one of the worse air quality at the moment ... here I am! :-/</p><p>On my way into Montreal, as I crossed the Champlain Bridge, I could not see the city of Montreal. That's how much smoke there is. The haze/smoke is so thick! It was a clear sky, but you wouldn't be able to tell. Sadly, the Canadian news stated that the fires could be getting worse. Below is a map of the wildfires. It's insane!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhP-zx8TD7npj1oT1ghJi0zuzD2I-gbPah_kqVkFQ0cHxCZNjhVwozMyXq2bdyEocoztwj93HC6peXtQos5ZBJag1R8fmTf1N4DzhwtlFhwtfBTHqdryT991N_JfY-GH9MkomUY6G8ymuKdAVrOYjGviPuJBDyPklKMLP7Up1w5dZJGY4GHVDTilmH3Hw/s2482/Screen%20Shot%202023-06-25%20at%209.28.12%20PM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1355" data-original-width="2482" height="175" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhP-zx8TD7npj1oT1ghJi0zuzD2I-gbPah_kqVkFQ0cHxCZNjhVwozMyXq2bdyEocoztwj93HC6peXtQos5ZBJag1R8fmTf1N4DzhwtlFhwtfBTHqdryT991N_JfY-GH9MkomUY6G8ymuKdAVrOYjGviPuJBDyPklKMLP7Up1w5dZJGY4GHVDTilmH3Hw/s320/Screen%20Shot%202023-06-25%20at%209.28.12%20PM.png" width="320" /></a></div><p>I'm trying to stay positive, focusing on gratitude ... it's become more and more difficult with all that is going on in this world .... focus ... happy thoughts!</p><p>I finished piecing my daughter's cardigan ... I just have the buttons to sew on. I had three skeins of organic cotton yarn left in Bone and 2 .5 skeins in Thistle. I thought I would knit something else. I really did not want to have any left overs. I bough another skein of the background and decided to make the Tolsta Tee by Rebecca Claw. However, I have a couple of months off .... I should be back to my somewhat regular blogging schedule.</p><p>I have not been quilting. It is much easier to pick up my knitting needles than to sit at the sewing machine. I suppose I could EPP or do wool work, but I haven't. Given that I have a few quilting UFOs to finish, starting a new knitting project is more enticing. They do get finished! ;)</p><p>I've been working on a Cardigan for my daughter. Well, let me back track a bit. She saw this cardigan that Taylor Swift was wearing but felt $600 was more than she wanted to pay. So, a resourceful child that she is, she found a pattern and asked her mom if she would knit it for her. Being delighted that my daughter would ask me to knit her something, off we went to my favourite yarn shop in Montreal.</p><p>The pattern is called Folklore Cardigan by Lion Brand Wool-Ease. I used Organic Cotton Worsted by Blue Sky Fiber in the colours Bone & Thistle.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6IWN1oyjr0fQdZV9mYzvl6ZQN5DtK0LvJ1BP37Wc9ZqNu0EJjmnST9VB3tIOfbOZJLoiBvQ8O7I2VFsj3HGIIHsOmE3MO6kyeimGASRmczovYxLJ71uZsXKD1ntdJUydTuI4pOKfp-lAyMhfrh9xJ0CV0Z0BnWtGa-e7VW0j7ATTFNciSCzxWS8Fi/s1280/Folklore%20cardigan.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6IWN1oyjr0fQdZV9mYzvl6ZQN5DtK0LvJ1BP37Wc9ZqNu0EJjmnST9VB3tIOfbOZJLoiBvQ8O7I2VFsj3HGIIHsOmE3MO6kyeimGASRmczovYxLJ71uZsXKD1ntdJUydTuI4pOKfp-lAyMhfrh9xJ0CV0Z0BnWtGa-e7VW0j7ATTFNciSCzxWS8Fi/s320/Folklore%20cardigan.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><p>What I thought was going to be a mindless project, turned out to be a mindful one. However, once I had memorized the pattern, it became easier. </p><p>I should mention that this cardigan was knitted twice. The first time it ended up not having enough ease, so I frogged and moved to the next size. I was pleased that, given it is cotton yarn, it held up well unfrogged!</p><p>Here is a picture of the back. Lots of cable works.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJi59ZUKdxpmoEb0sszU-20yOX3f5Wk_tXPyAUYhwhY4POL5bGNtFZdSPvBtwmdyZjdkcEENyyMPyzFah01nX7mGAqlbi0LppUSjm9IOZHmpEXckFynX1MZskKXf8rtHj94_0294HsSxClkKUN6sKQ-y8yVosndY0JFiQWD--bFTH1UP9qKd_AtauR/s1280/take%202.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1189" data-original-width="1280" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJi59ZUKdxpmoEb0sszU-20yOX3f5Wk_tXPyAUYhwhY4POL5bGNtFZdSPvBtwmdyZjdkcEENyyMPyzFah01nX7mGAqlbi0LppUSjm9IOZHmpEXckFynX1MZskKXf8rtHj94_0294HsSxClkKUN6sKQ-y8yVosndY0JFiQWD--bFTH1UP9qKd_AtauR/s320/take%202.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p>I am happy to write that the cardigan is fully knitted and partially pieced. I did want it completed for Pumpkin's birthday, but alas it seems to be taking me longer to piece it together than to knit. Ok .... I admit I dislike piecing knitted projects! There I've said it! I seem to have lost mine. I love this time of year and yet ... I'm blazé about it. </p><p>Last weekend, in search of some Christmas Spirit, I went into New York City with Pumpkin. Every movie I've ever watched mentioned how there's nothing like Christmas in New York City. Heck, Rob Thomas even wrote a song called <i>A New York Christmas</i>. I thought it would be a great place to find some Christmas Spirit. Off we went!</p><p>Pumpkin knows how I absolutely love trains ... so she booked Amtrak into NYC ... I was so excited to be on a train. I was the kid and Pumpkin was the adult! LOL</p><p>Once in New York City, we did what every tourist should do, get a New York pizza. We ate at this small joint and the pizza was amazing.</p><p>Stomach full, we walked to all of the holiday places recommended to us. We did the Winter Village in Bryant Park and off to Rockefeller Center we went. I even saw Santa and an Elf skating.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqqfLCgM8ExnUa8O35gLLiNo9lVVSfWNHVSaph0rfiQHRZ5bjokdt0-XrG3giG2skDsGHspH45bUU6L63HG-Epj2kBONBpA7vTs3xHMwZ9JNg5JZTnsrj05Ur-xsNkQ9bmovy-2prrLtp4N4eIlSsGLzBJ9FGJm34b1sHpG8gnfk23_LR6vn47-zmq/s1024/Rockafellor%20center.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="768" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqqfLCgM8ExnUa8O35gLLiNo9lVVSfWNHVSaph0rfiQHRZ5bjokdt0-XrG3giG2skDsGHspH45bUU6L63HG-Epj2kBONBpA7vTs3xHMwZ9JNg5JZTnsrj05Ur-xsNkQ9bmovy-2prrLtp4N4eIlSsGLzBJ9FGJm34b1sHpG8gnfk23_LR6vn47-zmq/s320/Rockafellor%20center.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>Everyone talks about roasted chestnuts ... I did buy a bag at a street corner vendor (which seem to be owned by this chain). Anyway, don't try the roasted chestnuts, they were awful ... and expensive. They weren't even warm. <div><br /></div><div>We continued walking around, going to some personal favourites ... American Girl Doll, Lego, Barnes & Nobles etc ... Saw Macy's Holiday window displays .... so many people .... people everywhere ... you couldn't avoid bumping into people. We did over 22,000 steps! </div><div><br /></div><div>By the time we had to catch our train back home, we were pooped. I think we were also overwhelmed with the number of people. I figured New York City would be busy, but this was overly busy. It was like a dance floor at a busy bar! No room to move! It was quite the experience. <br /><p>After being in New York City during the Christmas season .... I'm still without Christmas Spirit. Not sure what is going on here ... I haven't done any shopping either ... Sigh!</p><p>Thanks for stopping by! Many people have lost so much and it really doesn't seem to want to let up. We seem to be getting into this routine of staying home ... ordering online as opposed to supporting local business ... the mom and paps stores. </p><p>I'm guilty of being comfortable at home .... I have so much to do, so many project ... so many books to read .... so little time. I know I have to force myself to get out. I mean, I was never a social butterfly but it was getting a bit much! Thankfully, we can travel ... that's a bonus. </p><p>I'm enjoying some down time. It's been a busy four months ... but it was fruitful and I am pleased with the results. </p><p>In between busyness I manage to knit a few rows here and there. It just seems that picking up the needles is easier than sitting at the sewing machine. Not that I don't have a few quilting projects that needs finishing .... There's this quilt on Penelope that's been loaded for the past six (6) months ... that's a first! Oh well ...</p><p>I finished the kept and I just love how it turned out. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibi07SD_1S4wwE4y26at-VNaaCgchx31rvbkafglCtLKHm9qSRwlhH4UqAtcLDA_H9lwfAHZP-P76KnRBwWxC0rN5xnu1HU7v-lsRM0vSwzJSlYUgwh9Cmehi2iJSsyHnwqakLCBkCGXsNBieVKbm3iD_r4_j_Mxs8HzDIb0F7LsdeIGKUQlK1dEiO/s1280/Katies%20Kep%201.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="960" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibi07SD_1S4wwE4y26at-VNaaCgchx31rvbkafglCtLKHm9qSRwlhH4UqAtcLDA_H9lwfAHZP-P76KnRBwWxC0rN5xnu1HU7v-lsRM0vSwzJSlYUgwh9Cmehi2iJSsyHnwqakLCBkCGXsNBieVKbm3iD_r4_j_Mxs8HzDIb0F7LsdeIGKUQlK1dEiO/s320/Katies%20Kep%201.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I love the top!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixVCTVOwtKA_uGwF4cG2NzBQ9fIz2v1gDAsQfov18h6kVXex4Dt573FkhbOhv2eFuI9cjCSNByi82eL3QvPZ6I-ggISIjDylFUViuwvzC-j3R8DJDmrew2B7vIsUWQzWJPLXykOEtKc3Ph6iUgbpAaY0oozMWKp1XJdKm82dwl02FAk2R2wJXdNt6O/s1280/Katie's%20Kep%20top.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1139" data-original-width="1280" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixVCTVOwtKA_uGwF4cG2NzBQ9fIz2v1gDAsQfov18h6kVXex4Dt573FkhbOhv2eFuI9cjCSNByi82eL3QvPZ6I-ggISIjDylFUViuwvzC-j3R8DJDmrew2B7vIsUWQzWJPLXykOEtKc3Ph6iUgbpAaY0oozMWKp1XJdKm82dwl02FAk2R2wJXdNt6O/s320/Katie's%20Kep%20top.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I'm pretty please with my colourwork. So looking forward to not having any deadlines! Sigh!<p>That's all ... Not much time to do anything worth blogging about. However, I have been picking up my knitting needles every now and again. </p><p>I've been working on colour work socks. Colour work on a large project is challenging enough in itself... you should try it on a pair of socks ... using double pointed needles!</p><p>I was having difficulties dragging my yarn across four needles. My yarn dragging tension was not consistent, causing loose stitches. I decided to invest in some Addi Flexiflips to see if it would solve my issue. </p><p>They come in a set of three needles housed in a lovely tube.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtdt3jc5iBM6JfIB9CZEjbrkWvlUCfXdhYFCk7JsTqP7zlsluFeeb-WWmVh6P_nsQ4Ve_8GqMVCXQCiT9CHoiapdY-3Py2TA7ORljCoBiaFS9-xZ1wC6wEOPrjgDR6bt_buvfVvkVo2GfqGnE3Zp5qCslwAPJoiqA-Fn4VYlvCfgIeKD27Z9MhCWKF/s1024/Addi%20Flexiflips.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="768" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtdt3jc5iBM6JfIB9CZEjbrkWvlUCfXdhYFCk7JsTqP7zlsluFeeb-WWmVh6P_nsQ4Ve_8GqMVCXQCiT9CHoiapdY-3Py2TA7ORljCoBiaFS9-xZ1wC6wEOPrjgDR6bt_buvfVvkVo2GfqGnE3Zp5qCslwAPJoiqA-Fn4VYlvCfgIeKD27Z9MhCWKF/s320/Addi%20Flexiflips.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><p>It took getting used to them. I started out using size 2mm (US 0) and found that I couldn't get a grip on the needle. When a row is done, my little pinky tends to grip the working needle, as I move to another section to stitch. The needle would slip out of my hands. I even lost one, which fell in between the cracks of my mother's wooden back porch. Costing more than your typical double pointed needles, I was ready to write them off! Thanks to two extremely persevering men in my family, they managed to fish it out from between the cracks of the wood planks. Note to self, do not use in places where the needle can get lost between the cracks.</p><p>I found that using Addi Flexiflips improved my tension and lead to better stitches. Instead of four gaps that you need to cross the yarn, I only had two.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyPJ4joSjBEvL48t_-lgdpdAhTLzDIQqs21rCRShZOej1c23-0qM_XyZZEBYWTYVMhaRQE6Mk04bJcI1N94HGLWBJhll8DmOTrI6fuOeHzySAJ-2ywnnEMLu0MrwiY0kfNhmzUKYcHdpJWBYym8lkkouXWX4XT3DWDu5AO88Iw99JnTTF14Gs8Gla4/s1024/Forest%20path%201.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="768" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyPJ4joSjBEvL48t_-lgdpdAhTLzDIQqs21rCRShZOej1c23-0qM_XyZZEBYWTYVMhaRQE6Mk04bJcI1N94HGLWBJhll8DmOTrI6fuOeHzySAJ-2ywnnEMLu0MrwiY0kfNhmzUKYcHdpJWBYym8lkkouXWX4XT3DWDu5AO88Iw99JnTTF14Gs8Gla4/s320/Forest%20path%201.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>I am getting more and more comfortable with colour work socks to the point where I was no longer frogging my attempt. I lost count of the number of times I took it all apart. I decided that I had to stop and just knit. <div><br /></div><div>The pattern is called <i><a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/forest-path-socks-2" target="_blank">Forest Path Socks</a></i> by Patricia Anne Fortune of Knitography Farm Designs. Pumpkin fell in love with them .... Can you guess who now owns these socks? LOL I don't mind. It's just a joy when my daughter loves what I create. I can knit another pair for myself. My colour work will only get better! </div><div><br /></div><div>The pattern is easy to follow with clear instructions. I do love how Patricia does the back of the heel. It's a stitch sequence I can see myself incorporating in other sock patterns. <p>Thanks for stopping by. Catch you all later!
